Artist Statement/ Biography

Caroline Minchew is a photographer whose practice is motivated by alternative ways image making. Using the fundamentals of the photographic medium -- light and time, she creates works that explore environmental cycles and the aesthetics of decay. By layering mediums and combining analog photographic techniques with digital processes, her research driven works consider how multiple stories of land and ecology can weave together into a larger parable, drawing parallels between place and memory.

Caroline Minchew (b. 1992) is an artist currently based in Richmond, VA. She received her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BA from Sewanee: The University of the South. Her work has been exhibited at various galleries, most recently at Candela Gallery (Richmond) and The Anderson (Richmond). She has attended residencies at ChaNorth, Penland School of Crafts, and Burren College of Art. She has photographic works housed in the permanent collections of the National Museum of American History and the National Gallery of Art Photograph Study Collection in Washington, DC. < BACK
